The War of The Buttons

Supported by The Arts Council, England

Welcome to a tale of squabbles, scuffles ... and buttons!

George grows grapes.
Bessie grows cabbages.
One loves the sun. One loves the rain.

A petty squabble grows and grows and grows into ... the war of the buttons!

In a silly and wonderful tale, buttons and friendships are lost and won, games are played, and audiences young and old can rediscover their inner child!

Be taken on a journey of imagination, to a world drawn by a child. A world where you are invited to eat birthday cake, take sides and where a button can be a kiss, a wish, a present, or a trophy of war!

Told through an energetic mix of music, puppetry, clowning, movement and sign language, The War of the Buttons distinctive non-verbal vocabulary creates a show accessible to deaf, hearing and international audiences.

The War of the Buttons is based on the children’s book ‘La Guerre des Boutons’ written by French author Louis Pergaud.

This show has toured to many venues, including Festival Déviation, France, The Egg, Bath, The Hawth, Crawley, Stratford Circus, Half Moon Theatre, Jackson’s Lane, London, LBT Huddersfield, Square Chapel Halifax, and to Rural Touring Networks, Norfolk Rural Touring and Devon Rural Touring.

Diaspora

Supported by Défi Jeunes, The Armenian Cultural Centre, Valence.

An exhibition and performance that promotes an alternative image of refugees and asylum seekers by examining their culture through the microscope of a new situation.

This outdoor show, based around a caravan, is a physical piece incorporating art, video, live music and movement inspired by themes of refuge, exile and diaspora.

The idea behind this show is to celebrate differences within our changeable world whilst promoting humanity, empathy and positivity in a world where prejudice and discrimination is rife – often simply through lack of knowledge and understanding of each other.

During the daytime, our caravan is transformed into a mini-museum.

This piece is supported by the funding body Défi Jeunes and in kind, by the the Armenian Cultural Centre in Valence, The Maison Pignal and MarkMark .

Portmanteau

This show is always accompanied by popcorn and can also be supported by workshops, on cinema (including the creation of a zoetrope), nor-verbal communication and the power of the senses...
